With Victoria Day weekend upon us, this is Canada’s kick-off to the summer season. Summer season to me means ICE CREAM season! And I love me some ice cream! Just today I decided that was going to be my dessert for tonight. I’m most partial to Magnum bars; they are so decadent and so delicious.
I know what some of you may be thinking… “What?!?! A personal trainer is condoning eating ice cream?!?!” Yes, I am! And not the fake, low-fat, low-calorie, over-processed stuff. In my opinion, no one should “settle” for anything and that includes dessert. Get the real stuff and be present in every eating experience, especially when it comes to dessert.
So, here I offer you some inspiration and my top 3 tips to joyful eating:
- Make your food presentable. Plate it, add some ambiance with a candle and some nice table linens.
- Experience your food choice with all of your senses.
- Finally, stay present in the experience by knowing when enough is enough. You might discover a smaller size is all you need to satisfy your hunger and your craving. I was happy to find that Magnum has come out with a mini size, which is what I ended up eating and it was enough. By following those personal cues, you’ll enjoy the experience more and leave the table not feeling guilty about your choice.
Bon Appetit!
What great advice, whenever you plan a dessert or treat and enjoy it the sting of guilt is taken out of it.
Thanks
I love this post. It is good to hear that we can enjoy and relish every bit of our favourite food without feeling guilty. If we make it look good and feel good that we are eating it the smaller portion is likely to make us feel satisfied. It makes perfect sense.
Very well said Michelle, there is freedom found in not having to think/worry about everything you put in your mouth.
Great post and great advice!
Good luck in your endeavours. Elaine
What a good reminder of how to “treat” ourselves. Gail
