My last few blogs have been about removing the guilt from your eating choices, especially over the holiday season. A recent guest post with Adult Essentials sums it up with my take on the holiday poem ‘Twas the Night Before Christmas.
Santa gets to eat the cookies, so why shouldn’t we? Sure he splurges a little with the milk and treats that the youngsters leave out for him but, like the rest of us, I bet he settles back in to his balanced eating routine shortly after the holidays.
While we’re on the subject of cookies, I finally found the online recipe for a favorite treat that I make every year. Friends and family have been asking for it. Decadent, delicious and easy to make, this recipe for Skor Bars is sure to please. In the spirit of Intuitive Eating, I’d like to add just a few more directions:
- Cut into small squares
- Place 1-2 Skor bars on a plate and add a glass of milk alongside
- With full attention to your plate and to your state of mind, explore the look, feel and smell of the Skor bar before eating
- Take a long slow breath and ask yourself “Is this what I really crave in this moment” and make a choice to eat or save for later
- If you choose “yes”, savour every bite slowly and mindfully
Whatever you eat this season, may it be with full intention and enjoyment. If guilty feelings start to creep in to your choices, think of it this way – It’s not the once in a while indulgences that decide our fate on the scale or, more importantly, the fate of our health and well being. It’s what we do on the average day that really makes all the difference.
Wishing you a Joyful Eating experience, throughout the rest of December and always!
